I have always prided myself on being “fearless” because I’m not afraid of “traditional fears” like snakes, spiders, heights, etc.
As a kid I did just about every crazy thing you could think of. I dove off a 10 meter diving platform, owned an alligator, swam with stingrays, zip lined through the rainforest, did drag racing. You name it. I probably did it.
Nothing scared me. At least that’s what I told myself.
The reality was worse than all of those combined, as I struggled with the fear of others opinions. For too long I let my worry of what others would say or think hinder my possibilities. It ate me up inside. It wasn’t a fear I could just “get over. It was a fear that took honest work and determination to move past.
When I started my first business I had so many people say I couldn’t do it. But instead of shrinking myself back down like I had done so many times before, this time I said, “well I’ll show you” and I did.
Instead of refusing to show up for myself and all the dreams I had for the opinions of others, I started telling myself that if they can’t take me for who I am, they aren’t worth my time and energy.
But, it still scares me to death.
So rather than telling you to be fearless. I’m telling you to own the fear, use it and move past it. Instead of letting the fear own you and hinder your growth, own the fear.
Because you get to decide your fate, not the fears that live inside you.
